The concept of Keemala is to offer experiences to guests that are ‘Beyond Enchanting’ and is very different to other resorts in Phuket in both style and ethos. Keemala harnesses the history of fictitious ancient Phuket settlers and incorporates the story of four different clans within the resort. The architecture of the four different villa types reflects the skills and way of life of each of the groups.
Keemala and its grounds are designed as an expansion of the surrounding landscape, making use of natural features such as mature trees, streams and waterfalls and integrating these into the overall design and creating a wonderland for guests to enjoy. Keemala is the perfect place for honeymooners, couples and guests wishing to get away from it all.

The 16 ‘Clay Pool Cottages’ reflect the earthiness of the ‘Pa-Ta-Pea’ clan who believed in a strong connection to the earth and were leaders in agriculture at the time. They also excelled as fishermen, gardeners, carpenters, blacksmiths and miners. Not only would they build their homes on ground level, they’d also incorporate earth into their walls, roofs and furniture, even the beds they slept on were made from soil and clay. They’d build around life-giving rivers, on flat land; this was mainly to facilitate their strong agricultural skills and allowed them to fully live off their land.

The ‘Khon-Jorn Clan’ (Wanderer Clan) were an adventurous group consisting of foragers, herders, performers, traders and explorers, who spent their time trading goods with other tribes they encountered on their journeys. Due to their nomadic ways they’d prefer to construct semi-permanent homes, so they could easily move on, hence we celebrate them with our design of the seven Tent Pool Villas. Inside the Tent Pool Villas you will see the forms of wildlife and textures have inspired the interiors, materials were also chosen to highlight their pursuant lifestyle.

The seven two-story ‘Tree Pool Houses’ are built to represent the ‘We-Ha’ people who worshipped the universe and chose to live suspended from the trees to be nearer to the sky. The clan included the talents of healers, creators, architects and inventors. The tree houses are designed to seemingly be suspended from the trees. The interiors incorporate furniture and fittings that are hung from the ceiling and are complete with a private pool.

The ‘Rung-Nok’ community inspired the design of the eight ‘Bird’s Nest Pool Villas’. This group enjoyed an opulent way of life compared to other clans. Thus the interwoven design of their homes was to aid protection and privacy. This clan was thought to be more superior in both intellect and spirituality and comprised of artists, poets, musicians, philosophers and astrologers. They believed that the future could be predicted from astrology. They would bathe under the moonlight believing that their souls would be replenished, thus the inspiration for these beautiful private pool villas.
