Typical African Dishes:
Africa has a huge diversity of food culture from the East to the West not forgetting the North and South. Wherever we live in the world it is our culture and cuisine that binds us to our birth countries.
1. East African “Ugali na Nyama Chomar”
It translates to roast meat and is normally served at celebratory events.
2. Injero and Tibs (Ethiopian)
This is almost similar to a mezze platter. Injera is a large pancake and different types of food are simply heaped on top of it.
3. Samp and Beans (South Africa)
This is a traditional dish of the Zulu People. The dish is made from slowly cooked sugar beans and samp.
4. Mugoyu (Uganda)
This is a traditional dish made of sweet potatoes and beans. The sweet potatoes are steamed in banana leaves and the red kidney beans are boiled with seasoning. They are then mixed to form one dish.
5. Potjiekos (Namibia & South Africa)
Potjiekos is a stew prepared outdoors. It is traditionally cooked in a round, cast iron , three legged pot which traditionally came from the Netherlands.
This is an Arab dessert of a sweet dumpling filled with cream and nuts as well as a unique cheese known as Akkawi.
The food of Africa is fascinating without doubt.
