New weekend dining menu at forum’s L’Antico Giardino | 21 February 2017

The kitchen at forum’s L’Antico Giardino in Lanseria will open from 4th March on Saturdays and Sundays for breakfast and lunch.

On the last Friday of every month, the kitchen will also be open from 3pm to 6pm for afternoon drinks and snacks – definitely one way to beat the traffic and see in the weekend.

Following on from the forum company’s extremely popular Farm to Table events, the focus for breakfast and lunch follows the same philosophy: sit under the trees and enjoy delicious, fresh food, using produce that has been sourced from the area.  As it is on the cycle route towards the Cradle, it is a lovely outdoor option if you want to pop in for a coffee or breakfast after your morning ride. There is also ample space for kids to ride their bikes.

The menu offers an array of delicous offerings – including various moreish vegetarian options.  All-day breakfast includes Sourdough crumpets, ricotta, honey and wild rocket or a Roasted tomato, mushroom, leek, cheese and fresh herb omelette. From 11am till 3pm, there are hearty options if you are feeling peckish: Three rivers salmon trout with a lemon marmalade, organic greens and farm bread and butter; or Free range rib eye of beef, smoked sweet potato fatboys and pickled curry green beans – for 4 people to share.  If you prefer a snack to nibble on, tuck into the soft local cheeses and crackers with ‘just bottled’ seasonal preserve. There is also artisan ice cream, decadent chocolate pots and seasonal fruit. On your way out, make sure that you stock up on preserved fruits, pickled lemons and homemade jams.

AVONDALE FIELD TO FEAST | 26th MARCH

proprietor Johnathan Grieve and FABER chef-patron Eric Bulpitt are teaming up to introduce a new concept to the world of winelands dining, with the launch of a range of innovative ‘Field to Feast’ luncheons starting on Sunday, 26th March 2017, for the Autumn Feast. Paarl estate Avondale has long been known for its pioneering biodynamic approach to viticulture and winemaking and, since opening on the estate in October 2016, FABER has fast become one of the most sought-after culinary destinations in the wine lands. Feast days will begin with a tour of the property by farm-chic tractor-trailer as Grieve, an entertaining raconteur, unpacks the biodynamic principles underpinning the growth of Avondale since the family became custodians of the land in 1996.

Whether it’s touring the farm’s biodynamic vegetable gardens or admiring the quirky Egg-mobile that supplies the kitchen with pasture-reared eggs, Bulpitt will look to spark a conversation with guests around how hyper-local sustainably-sourced produce informs and defines the menu at FABER. Seats for each ‘Field to Feast’ are limited, and advance reservations highly recommended. Luncheons are held between 11am and 3pm and cost R550 per person, including the guided farm tour, three-course lunch, and three glasses of wine, spring water from the farm and restaurant gratuity.

UPCOMING ‘FIELD TO FEAST’ LUNCHEONS:

26th of March 2017 for the Autumn Feast

11th June 2017 for the Winter Feast

17th September 2017 for the Spring Feast

26th November 2017 for the Summer Feast

La Traviata | 31 March – 9 April | Joburg Theatre

Joburg Ballet’s first production of 2017 will be the long-awaited return of celebrated choreographer Veronica Paeper’s La Traviata – The Ballet for ten performances.. The ballet was last performed in Johannesburg in 2008.

Veronica Paeper is SA’s leading choreographer working in the classical style, with an extensive repertoire of ballets for CAPAB Ballet and Cape Town City Ballet to her credit. Paeper is particularly admired for her full-length story ballets, among which La Traviata – The Ballet is one of her most popular works. Originally created in Cape Town in 1990, La Traviata is based on the 19th century story of the Lady of the Camellias. A deeply moving portrait of a woman who sacrifices all for the man she loves, the ballet is set to the unforgettable music of Verdi’s opera, La Traviata. The sweeping score has been arranged and adapted for the ballet by conductor Allan Stephenson.

In addition to performances in SA, La Traviata – The Ballet has also been presented by Northern Ballet Theatre in the UK where critics admired it as “graceful, passionate and ravishingly romantic”, “an utterly compelling production” and “outstanding throughout”, leaving “hardly a dry eye in the theatre”.  Joburg Ballet is pleased to announce that ticket prices for 2017 remain unchanged from 2016, with special offers and discounts further enhancing the accessibility of the company’s performances to a wider public. These include:
• Early Bird Special: all seats less 30% (excludes Opening Night and Morning Performances). Early Bird booking for La Traviata ends on 31 January 2017.
• Half Price Opening Nights: all seats discounted by 50%
