From the moment we arrived at the breathtaking sight that is the PARKROYAL on Pickering we were made to feel at home. The stunning planter walls with their greenery cascading down the sides of the building seemed like an oasis in the city.
It was easy, just at first glance to see why the PARKROYAL on Pickering has become such an iconic hotel landmark in Singapore. The stunning hotel-in-a-garden concept that incorporates energy-saving features throughout the building offers uncomplicated, modern and efficient service and a team of hotel associates who are passionate about you enjoying your experience, not just at the hotel but in their city as well. Every effort is made to connect guests to authentic local experiences.
With its prime location in the heart of the Singapore at the gateway of the Central Business District, Hong Lim Park and bustling Chinatown, PARKROYAL on Pickering Collection Hotel was the perfect choice for us. Close to various modes of public transportation and just a short walk away from waterfront dining and entertainment options along the Singapore River as well as vibrant nightlife hotspots at Clarke Quay and Boat Quay, I was super excited to be there.
Designed by world-renowned architects WOHA, PARKROYAL on Pickering’s ‘hotel-in-a-garden’ concept features over 15,000 sqm of lush gardens, waterfalls and planter walls, which constitutes more than twice the hotel’s total land area. The tactile undulating building design, inspired by the rice-paddy fields of Bali, features Singapore’s first zero-energy sky gardens powered by solar energy cells and features a diverse variety of over 10 species of flora. The comprehensive energy and water conservation features include light, rain and motion sensors, as well as the use of rain harvesting and NEWater (recycled water). Stunning natural materials and textures have been used throughout the design of the hotel, including light and dark wood, pebbles, water, green ‘moss’ carpets and glass.
The well-furnished, nature-inspired rooms and suites provide optimal relaxation and comfort, featuring a palate of calm greens and natural wood. All rooms feature wireless internet access, in-room amenities and a well-stocked Executive Bar.
Depending on which room type you select you can have the option of being included in the exclusive Orchid Club Lounge . Located at the hotel’s top level the Orchid Club offers panoramic views of the city and comes equipped with private meeting spaces, a library and dedicated Club Concierge. Guests staying on the Orchid Club floors enjoy champagne breakfast, complimentary evening cocktails and canapés, as well as exclusive access to the Rooftop Terrace. We were lucky enough to enjoy these awesome benefits and the views are really, really spectaculars. I loved that the walk to our room from the elevator was ‘outside’ – no dimly lit passageways just fresh air and greenery. We were on the 13th floor so the views from the room were almost as magnificent as the Orchid Club.
We enjoyed breakfast once in the Orchid Club but then just had to try Lime.
The contemporary open-kitchen concept restaurant, serving delectable local favourites and international cuisine in lively theatrical fashion. There is just about anything you can possibly think of to get your day off to a great start. From Indian rotis just like mama made to pastries that make you think of France to raw foods and of course, juicing is just as big in Singapore as it is anywhere in the world right now, the only difference is you can enjoy ‘juices’ with a traditional flavour. Like durian (jackfruit) – but this is a NO from me.
HEALTH & FITNESS
The hotel has an entire floor dedicated to Wellness. Cleverly designed as an open floor, guests are able to experience a breath of fresh air above the bustle of the city, with the inviting infinity pool and Jacuzzi, bird-cage cabanas, 300m Garden Walk and glass-walled fitness centre. I was intrigued by the “Garden Walk” which runs the perimeter of the hotel and where you can enjoy a gentle jog or brisk walk in the outdoors yet still high above the city. Planters of herbs are scattered about and we are told that most of these herbs find their way into the hotel’s kitchens. Surrounded by lush greenery and water, the St. Gregory spa completes the hotel’s holistic offering of wellness facilities.
Highly motivated and knowledgeable PARKROYAL people (hotel associates) are on hand to connect guests to cultural gems, shopping havens, latest attractions and food haunts around the city. Guests will experience speedy check-in using iPads, taking place in the lobby, in room or even on route to the room. We loved the concept of the app called PARKROYALPicks, it is an app that features local recommendations on places to explore, fun things to do, where to eat and also ‘hidden gems’ in the city curated by the PARKROYAL people.
The staff are simply amazing. Eager to help and willing to oblige on the smallest request. We loved staying here and access to and from the airport easy. Any visitor to Singapore should consider a night at this intriguingly beautiful hotel.
